My Custom Mounting Plate, Now with a Brake Disc!
From Car to Cosmos: My DIY Mount Adapter Plate Hack!
Hey everyone! Today, I’ve got a super cool little DIY project for you: creating a rock-solid adapter plate for your mount using nothing more than a car brake disc! If you’re rocking an EQ6, you’ll want a disc with an inner hole diameter of 65mm. Some VW Golf models, for example, fit the bill perfectly. The best part? It’ll only set you back around €25 (or about $30 USD).
All it takes is drilling some holes in the disc with a drill press to accommodate your threaded rods. In my case, I went with an 18mm diameter. You’ll also need a smaller hole, around 6mm, for your azimuthal support rod:
To secure the mount, you can screw it to the plate using a really large washer. Or, like me, you can fabricate a simple metal support bar, drilled in the center, to let the clamping screw pass through:
This DIY adapter plate is just as rigid as any custom-made one you could buy. Now, don’t forget the crucial step: protecting it from rust!
