Illuminating Your Flats: My Deep Dive into EL Panels
Level Up Your Flats: My New EL Panels Are Here!
I recently snagged a couple of electroluminescent (EL) panels to seriously level up my flat-field calibration game. Here in France, finding decent EL panels, especially in larger sizes, can be a bit of a pain – they’re often scarce and come with a hefty price tag.
But thanks to the magic of the internet (and a bit of digging), I managed to track down some awesome large formats from China: an A2 and an A3! To my surprise, they arrived in less than 10 days, and I’m super impressed with the quality. They’re already happily installed in the observatory!
The big win with EL panels is their absolutely perfect, uniform illumination. That makes them ideal for creating those crucial flat frames that help us banish vignetting and dust motes from our precious subs.
