FSQ106: Hitting a Snag!

FSQ106 Focus Fix: A Simple Trick!

During our initial remote tests with the FSQ106, we started noticing some pesky focus issues! My first thought was a motor problem, so I swapped it out. But, alas, that didn’t solve a thing! Knowing Takahashi’s reputation for top-notch build quality, I really struggled to believe our problem could be coming from the focuser rack itself. But boy, was I in for a surprise!

After removing the motor, I manually tested the focuser and immediately felt some really stiff points.

Once I removed the Taka MEF-3 micro focuser, I noticed that without it, everything was perfectly smooth. Aha! The culprit was identified!!!

So, I decided to remove that small ring responsible for the x10 reduction (which, let’s be honest, has absolutely no use when operating remotely). And just like that, everything clicked back into place!

It was a simple little tweak, but hopefully, it’ll save you some headaches if you ever find yourself in a similar situation…
