My Rolling Roof Observatory Gets a Makeover!

Observatory Roll-Off Roof Renovation: Kicking Off the Big Fix!

After 15 years of loyal service, my observatory’s roll-off roof was finally screaming for some TLC. It was definitely showing its age! This past weekend, I decided it was time to give it a proper facelift.

I started by meticulously removing all the old bitumen roofing sheets. I also swapped out quite a few of the underlying wooden battens, both beneath the roof surface and along its sides. Finally, I made some structural modifications to the framework itself, aiming to give myself a bit more headroom and overall freedom to move around inside the observatory.

While I eagerly await the new steel roof panels and a complete fresh paint job for the entire observatory, I’ve got it temporarily covered with a sturdy tarp to keep it safe from whatever the weather decides to throw at it!
