SkyMéca T-Rings: Precision Adapters for Astrophotography

No More Wiggle: SkyMéca’s Innovative PETP T-Rings Are a Game Changer!

Last weekend, I got the chance to test out the very first T-rings from the new company SkyMéca, run by my friend Didier Chaplain. These T-rings boast an innovative concept: they’re made of PETP, or POLYETHYLENETEREPHTHALATE! The engineering pros out there will tell you that PETP is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic material based on polyethylene terephthalate. If, like me, that sounds like a foreign language, just know it’s a type of plastic with high mechanical strength and excellent resistance to sliding and wear.

I ordered these T-rings from SkyMéca specifically to reduce any play between my telescopes and my DSLR cameras (a trusty Canon 350D). In use, you immediately notice there’s absolutely no slop with these PETP T-rings. You almost have to force them into place, and once they’re seated, nothing moves – they’re rock solid! (But don’t worry, they’re still easy to remove when you need to).

I really want to spread the word about SkyMéca! Didier is a true machining genius, and he absolutely deserves to be known and recognized for his work. He’ll soon be offering a ton of high-quality, affordable astro gear on his website. He’ll also be offering custom machining services for astronomy applications! Here’s to a long and prosperous future for SkyMéca!
